No official word from NASA yet on what the unidentified light could be in a photo sent from Mars by the Curiosity rover, but Doug Ellison, a Visualization Producer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said on his personal Twitter account, "It's not in the left-Navcam image taken at the exact same moment. It's a cosmic ray hit."
However, later Ellison added, "Could be more to it. And I'm a million miles from being 'a scientist'. Never claimed to be one, shouldn't be quoted as one."
