On Sunday, The North Carolina GOP adopted a platform plank that would give people the legal right to discriminate against the LGBT community while declaring simultaneously that discrimination against other citizens for other reasons isn’t right.
Article III: Individual Liberty states “Government should treat all citizens impartially, without regard to wealth, race, ethnicity, disability, religion, sex, political affiliation or national origin. We oppose all forms of invidious discrimination. Sexual orientation is not an appropriate category.”
The platform also declares that “the ideal environment for raising children is a two-parent family with a mother and father who are married and committed to that life-long relationship” and that “adoption by same sex couples” should be illegal.
So there you have it. In the wake of North Carolinians voting to enshrine a discriminatory ban on same-sex marriage in the state’s pitiful and disgraceful excuse for a Constitution, the state Republican Party is making the open discrimination of homosexuals part of their platform.
