Thousands of people were leaving [Winnipeg's] The Forks around 11:30 p.m. Monday after taking in the annual [Canada Day] fireworks display when a woman driving a Pontiac Sunfire hit a plastic wagon with a young girl inside.
The child wasn’t injured but the man pulling the girl became upset. A man who identified himself as the girl’s uncle said they were at the end of a group of about 15 adults and kids who had watched the fireworks, when the car nearly hit the woman in front of him. Then she hit the wagon.
“She said that we had no right to cross in front of her car,” he told the Winnipeg Sun on Tuesday. “She was creeping into the intersection — we were at a crosswalk — to the point where she was hitting my knees and the wagon. She kept driving forward..."
Police arrived on scene and tried several times to get the driver to pull the vehicle over to the side of the road. She kept refusing...That’s when officers asked the woman to turn off the engine. She refused.
A cop reached into the vehicle to turn off the ignition and the driver allegedly bit him on his arm. A video posted on Facebook appears to show officers pulling the woman out of the driver’s side window before arresting her, as onlookers cheered.
