"Zero Dark Thirty" and "Lincoln" — two political films that have drawn attention on Capital Hill — were nominated for multiple Academy Awards on Thursday morning.

Both films were nominated for Best Picture, the most prestigious prize of the night.

...[Kathryn] Bigelow, who won an Oscar for directing "The Hurt Locker," was not nominated for Best Director again this year while Jessica Chastain, who plays a CIA official in the movie, received a nomination for Best Actress.

Actor Daniel Day-Lewis, who visited Capital Hill and the White House to promote "Lincoln," was nominated for Best Actor for his role as the nation's 16th president. Director Steven Spielberg was nominated for Best Director.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) brought Day-Lewis and Spielberg to Capital Hill during December's debt talks to show their film to the Senate. Reid is a huge fan of the movie and has seen it multiple times. President Obama also hosted a screening at the White House, and House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) took several members to see it.

Sally Field was nominated for Best Actress for her role as Mary Lincoln. Tommy Lee Jones was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Republican congressman Thaddeus Stevens.

Also nominated for Best Picture was "Argo," a film about the rescue of six U.S. diplomats from Tehran during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis.
