The first video below is a clip that captures a moment of uproarious laughter from the audience in the debate between Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and her Democratic opponent, businessman Jim Graves. What prompted such a strong response from the crowd was this line from Bachmann:
"I've very much been a part of the solution and it's insulting to say that these are political speech, because that's one thing I do not do, is political speech." [sic]
The second video is of the entire debate, which was the first of three to be held before the Nov. 6 election. During this one hour encounter, Bachmann talked about her opposition to President Barack Obama's health care law and her support for a new St. Croix River bridge near her home in Stillwater, Minnesota.
Bachmann told the audience, "I am here; I am one of you."
Graves called the bridge a 'Rolls Royce' project that could have been done more cheaply. He also accused Bachmann of evading the question of what she would to do to preserve Medicare and Social Security and he criticized the House Tea Party Caucus founder and chairperson's for her controversial public persona, saying "We need somebody that can create jobs, not headlines."
