Mitt Romney made the mother of all blunders by snubbing the troops in his Tampa convention, and President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, as well as Senator John Kerry, traded turns in driving a Humvee through the hole left by Romney’s glaring omission.
There is, however, a very sobering reality for Democrats and there is no way to cut a round edge on it.
The 21st century Democratic Party is going to serve up a $4 trillion debt deal, embracing conservative austerity, while changing the social safety net that Franklin Delano Roosevelt created...
...So, activist Democrats and progressives have to decide if they want Obama-Biden cutting the budget and slashing programs, with there a fight to be had on the inside if they’re elected, or if you want to hand it over to Romney-Ryan who’ll gut everything they care about.
Those voting for Jill Stein, Gary Johnson, writing in or still undecided don’t have to worry about this, because they’re against all of it, but it’s the drama underneath the Democratic campaign to reelect Obama-Biden.
As for President Obama, he revealed the humility that was needed, then asked Americans for their vote. He did it with open heart and with full acknowledgement that he needs his base and badly. If there is any message that was sent this week it’s that they realize this to their core.
