Singer Whitney Houston died Saturday in Beverly Hills, according to law enforcement sources.

Authorities are trying to determine a cause of death...She was found in the Beverly Hilton Hotel, where emergency medical personnel were called sometime Saturday, said the sources, who asked to remain anonymous because the investigation is ongoing.

Houston, 48, was in the Los Angeles area for a musical tribute to music executive Clive Davis and had performed and spoken to reporters earlier in the week.

Suddenly, the annual pre Grammy dinner given by her mentor Clive Davis — which she was scheduled to attend– is set to become a memorial. It’s too late to cancel the 800 plus person dinner here at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. So somberly the theme of the evening will be to celebrate Houston’s life.

--------------------------------------------------------

An emergency call was made from the Grammy Award winning singer’s room in the Beverly Hilton Hotel at 3:23pm Saturday, Los Angeles time. After attempts to resuscitate the singer, Whitney Houston was eventually pronounced dead at 3:55 pm Saturday, Los Angeles time.

Spokesperson for the Beverly Hills Police Department, Lieutenant Mark Rosen, made a statement to the public confirming the singer’s death and stating that there was “no sign of criminal intent”. Rosen stated that Houston’s death is “under investigation” by the Beverly Hills Police Department.

This is the first thing I've read with any details about her death. RIP, Whitney, and thanks for all the wonderful songs and films. Gone too soon.

I just read that she had completed a new movie late last year.

Detroit’s connection with Whitney Houston revolves around the remake of the 1976 movie ‘Sparkle'...

The hope was that ‘Sparkle’ would allow Whitney to make a comeback. ‘Sparkle’ is loosely based on the story of The Supremes, one of Detroit Motown’s biggest successes stories. It has been rumored that the role Ms. Houston played is that of a gospel singer. The movie, starting Jordin Sparks, filmed in the Grand Circus Park district and wrapped up filming last November 17, 2011. Detroit area movie goers should be able to catch glimpses of Fox Theatre, Cliff Bell's, Detroit Opera House and Masonic Temple.

Whitney Houston spent several months in the Detroit area during the filming of the movie and at one point attended the Detroit Lions NFL game October 24 2011, with her fellow cast members, including Jordin Sparks. Pictures taken during that time showed Whitney to be apparently in good health.

‘Sparkle’ is believed to arrive to big screens in 2012.

Here's a link to info on the new Sparkle. It includes a photo from the film.
