Jesse Jackson: "It's Not So Much What Republican's Say, It's What They Do"

Looking at the current pool of Republican Presidential candidates, do you think Gingrich speaks in a coded racist language? He called President Obama the ‘Food Stamp President,' when in fact George W. Bush expanded food stamp eligibility under his administration.

On the issue of food stamps, 49 million who use food stamps are White, 24 million are black, 20 are Latino, so “we” have the image of food stamps but that’s not who we are, number 1.

Number 2, the whole Republican Party, all of the elitists are determined to support the 10th amendment – that’s a state’s right as sovereign, which means states have a right to determine who gets an education, who has the right to vote.

Dr. King’s victories are over state’s rights because we supported a more perfect Union.

So, when the Republicans were in South Carolina, a state where 33 percent are African American, and then go to 1 church, 1 community, 1 school, they send a signal.

And they didn’t reach out to Collin Powell, who is Republican. J C Watson, Michael Steele, former Chair and a Congressman from South Carolina and Florida who are African American, it means they have turned their backs on us.

It’s not so much of what Newt Gingrich says, it’s what they do. And what they do is seek to be indifferent to pain and possibilities of black people.

How can we get money out of politics?

Right now, the Supreme Court ruled that corporations were individuals. There are no limits to the corrupting of our political process.

They have this thing called super PACs; they spend an unlimited amount of money attacking each other.

Gingrich attacks Romney, Romney attacks Gingrich. Not one is attacking poverty, lack of access to drinkable water, health care, etc…

So we see now is an abuse of power. Against those odds it's difficult today, but was more difficult yesterday. We still can march, and we can register and vote and we can determine the outcome.

Maximum campaign donations $250.00 per year per person. C-Spam & PBS only can carry advertisements and debates. Lobbying .. make it a felony with heavy fines and jail time.. mandatory 5 years & 5 million. ..2nd office double it and so on... get rid of C.U. and the SuperPacs..

^^^ Of course it's racial. Why is that still a doubt in everyone's mind? No one person, company, or organization that opposes politics has ever been in such an uproar until this 'black' man came into the 'white' house.

And they didn’t reach out to Collin Powell,

^^^ Of course not. No one saw Collin Powell as POTUS. No one knew anything about him, only the he was a black man that did his job well.

The only one thing anybody could say about him was, "He speaks so well. Definitely, he could be president. He speaks so well." Which was stupid in the eyes of the people, because to us it was like, "How the hell's he supposed to speak?" Like he's supposed to say, "I'ze gonna bombs me a country today. I be prez-o-dent!" - Chris Rock; Bigger and Blacker (1998).

SATOWNMYTOWN-

I heard Bill O'Reilly theother not half way defending Newt's comment that spanish was the language of the ghetto. Suddenly, O'Reilly is sayiong that "Certainly the use of "we be" in the black community is not helpful. These people see black people as "less than"-period. I don't know any black people who use "we be." I know that would surprise O'Reilly, but what would you expect from a guy who was surprised that the black people at a soul food restaurant in Harlem were not all running around calling each other MF's.

We have got to get more media access to control the narrative that describes us. I doubt that Bill O'Reilly even knows any black people other than those that he meets as a result of his job, and none of them would be using 'we be." But, when he said it, Geraldo Rivera, a Puerto Rican, did not challenge him.

Black folks are not going to get respect unless they demand it. Like everything else they have gotten.

Then, we have to stop being concerned about the evaluations of us by those who do not have our best interests at heart.

Well said, sir! Sums it up in a nutshell!

Then, we have to stop being concerned about the evaluations of us by those who do not have our best interests at heart.

Amen to that. We are the ones who set the standards and have to let our voices be heard in constructive dialogue.

Jesse Jackson's right. Action speaks louder than words. Gringrich's actions thus far have been worse than his words. Electing someone like the convicted ethics violator, known cheater, race-baiting, and serial adulterer Newt Gingrich POTUS would be a national nightmare.

Simply put, a LOT of whites aren't necessarily concerned with Newtons' past indescretions. Reminds me of a lot of southern working class whites who willfully ignore the fact that republicans don't give two CENTS about them. Yet they CONTINUE to vote that way.

I only hope is that such concern doesn't mean a victory for Newt in November.
