You have to give it to him, there were some good political dog whistles in that speech! He not only gave a wink to birthers and xenophobes, but even managed to mention scary New York.

What a unifier -- not!

Hi Carloz,

The carnival barker was hard to watch, what with the pompous unethical serial cheater/liar Newt spewing his hate, and my hubby reacting to it with such disgust, and trying to hear over the loud cursing that was coming from the other person in the room(me????), it was not a good time.

It seems that the family value party claim must be retired to the fairy tales. Those dog whistles easily trump family values and moral character. I cannot believe that anyone would vote for a person who is as corrupt and unconscionable as newt the toot. Moral decay at its finest. So there.☺

Carnival barker is right, Teresa. A Tiffany addict criticizing New York elites. A serial adulterer preaching family values. A xenophobic bigot complaining about prejudice. A former FOX News employee knocking the media. One could easily overdose on all irony and hypocrisy that 40% of SC Republican voters gave their support to yesterday.

Newt is an idiot

GINGRICH: "Under Jimmy Carter, we had the wrong laws, the wrong regulations, the wrong leadership, and we killed jobs. We had inflation. We went to 10.8 percent unemployment. Under Ronald Reagan, we had the right job — the right laws, the right regulators, the right leadership. We created 16 million new jobs."

FACT CHECK: Sure, inflation was bad and gas lines long, but under Carter's presidency unemployment never topped 7.8 percent. The unemployment rate did reach 10.8 percent, but not until November 1982, nearly two years into Reagan's first term.

Most economists attribute the jobless increase to a sharp rise in interest rates engineered by then-Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker in an ultimately successful effort to choke off inflation. Unemployment began to fall in 1983 and dropped to 7.2 percent in November 1984, when Reagan easily won re-election.

Fact check: GOP debate's history flubs

The economy did add 16 million jobs during Reagan's 1981-1989 presidency. Gingrich's assertion that "we created" them may have left the impression that he was a key figure in that growth. Although Gingrich was first elected to the House in 1978, his first Republican leadership position, as minority whip, began when Reagan left office, in 1989.

I found it amazing the Gingrich was zinging the elites, when he is one of them. His mission after being drummed out of the House was to make as much of that elitist money as he possibly could.

He is actually giving people a good history lesson, for once.

He is playing the CLASSIC 19th century american rightwing populist - racist, conspiracy minded, ranting against the "elites" while coveting their power and position, he's pushing ALL the buttons.

The only good thing is that this type NEVER got beyond state government or the federal legislature.

I agree with you Carloz - Gingrich is a multi-millionare, Ph.D. 'professor', and Tiffany addict. Who are these 'elites' of whom he speaks - and why is he not one of them (or is he)?

I always know what's coming when in the movies a character says "Don't trust anybody!" If Gingrich says that the 'elites' are "trying to force us to quit being American" - and he's elected - well ... we can't say that he didn't warn us.

Gingrich is an arrogant, sanctimonious, hypocritical, self-serving, condescending, race-baiting, morally-bankrupt and ethically-barren scam artist and master lobbyist -- making him the ideal candidate to represent the principles, values, and political agenda of the Republican Party.

Gingrich pandering to the haters with his stating that Obama will be like Saul Olinsky is a pile of crap and just pandering to the racisits and fear mongering. I think the question is: How ignorant are the American voters and will they just go along with the ignorant haters or will they actually think about what they are doing.

Thinking is not a strong suit for anyone that votes for Newt. They are ruled by something else and it sure is not a moral compass.

Gingrich doesn't represent any values that I support including freedom. The values that he supports are likely negative in nature and would be dangerous to the People.

Being American, is supposed to mean the same as being human. Because as an open free country, there is no description that covers all of us.

You are an american if you are a bible thumper, who likes to preach from the corner.

You are an american if you like to party all night in the streets of Vegas.

You are an american if you like to shun electricity and live like it is still the 1800s.

You are an american if you like to wear a turbin, or chinese clothes or indian clothes or any style.

The right seem to think you are only an american if you are fat, white and evangelical. Trying to pigeon hole what it means to be"american" is antithesis to what this entire experiment is supposed to be about.

The most american person on this planet, is you. It doesnt matter who you are, what your culture s, how you like to live, your sex or sexual preference and that is the entire point of America. You can be who you want to be and supposedly be mostly left to your own devices as long as you arent interfering with someone else's rights to do the same.

Remember when Nehru jackets were the fashion rage? It seems that could never happen today, because xenophobia is at an all time high. Anything foreign is taboo these days. Ah, I pine for those days of the late 60's and early 70's when we had a brotherhood of man, people shared, youngsters questioned authority and authorities forgave them. We didn't get kicked out of school under "zero tolerance." Parent understood and tolerated our rebellion, we had a smoking area designated at the high school, teachers didn't necessarily turn you in for small trespasses like getting caught smoking a joint. Those were the days.

My now bother in law wore one of those Nehru suits to my wedding in 1964. Your comment triggered memories of a more innocent time when we were young and had allot of faith in the future. We had problems as we do now but the nasty meanness did not seem to be so prevalent as it is today. Religion was not used to gain political points and we wanted our children educated and there were jobs and a bright future to look to. Greed has always been here but it did not seem to be a religion as it is now. Gingrich is just typical of our times. He is mean, dishonest and panders to those who he hopes will help him get elected.

When did the staypuff marshmallow gain the ability to speak.

If Newt gains the nomination and Christie b/comes his VP; they better make sure the stages upon which they tell their lies, are massively reinforced.

Well, I guess Gingrich doesn't want to acknowledge that the American people don't particularly like him...
