Working through the year-end best/worst movie lists can be a feat of Olympic proportions, but there's one list which is so damn cool you'll definitely want to give it a whirl. NASA...[has] compiled a list of the "least plausible science fiction movies ever made," and they ranked the disastrous (in more ways than one) '2012' as the most "absurd" sci-fi flick of all time.

Now that the scientists have spoken, it's time for the movie herd to weigh in. In your opinion, which side of the coin do sci-fi classics like 'Soylent Green' or '2001' fall on? Where does a movie like 'Blade Runner' hit or miss the science textbook? Leave us your most ludicrous or science-savvy votes in the comments section.
How could they leave Plan 9 From Outer Space off the worst list?!?

HEY!! Plan 9 wasn't THAT bad! (sarc). Gotta say, I agree with their rankings on the ones I've seen. Fortunately, I didn't waste my money on Armageddon. I AM, however, disappointed that "Independence Day" didn't make the worst list. I love the movie, but the entire hacking premis, plus the Area 51 crap, made me laugh.

I am appalled that "Alien" didn't make the list. I also agree with Neale on the alien-system hack; if you can't read/write the language, especially in proper syntax, you cannot hack. Period.

Yes, Alien should have been on the most realistic list, IMO! And I liked The Day The Earth Stood Still, but realistic?

ACK ACK yodelllllaeeeooooooooooooo!!!! they left out mars attacks......

I guess since it was a comedy that wasn't trying to be realistic, they let it slide.

What about the original "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes"? Puberty Love.

yeah its discrimination of sci fi comedy , they didnt even mention SpaceBalls......

"Stop preparing for it and just DO IT!!"
"Snotty beamed me last night, and it was awesome!"
"Funny, she doesn't LOOK Druish."

I think these were actually intended to be serious films... Not the silly ones like Plan 9 and Attack of the killer Toms.
One of my all-time favorites is on the best list. The original Day the Earth stood still.
I saw Spaceballs on my 30th birthday. Still watch it when ever it's on. (almost anything by Mel Brooks, for that matter.)

Where would Dune fit in?

I'd say on the pretty damn good list, but then I'm no NASA scientist.

As for "Dune", IMO the film was utter tripe. There is simply too much to the tale to be compressed into a couple of hours of film, so Hollywood did what they have always done: hack the story to bits. Some years later, the SciFi Channel (when it was still worth a @!$%#) treated "Dune" as a miniseries which was far more true to Frank Herbert's novel.

While never a fan of Dune, What hollywood did to it was literary rape. and the Sci Fi channle didn't do MUCH better.

Another cool movie, was "The last starfighter."
A great example of the benefit of the type of video games that develop great eye-hand co-ordination.

Here is two more to think about;
(1) The original time machine.
(2) Planet of the apes.

Well the good list; even though time machine isn't realistic.
