Personally, I believe that our American system works as long as you participate in it. You must vote and make your voice heard. Otherwise you will be left out. Mari-Luci Jaramillo

Hetep and Respect Carloz,

I already voted. I don't always vote a straight ticket, but this year: Democrat. What about you?

I will be following your lead on Tuesday.

The question is what do you think will be the outcome. I Did a Newsvine Poll on Sunday you might find interesting. Will Dems keep both houses? Go on the record and we can check back with each other on Wednesday to see who got it right. I have a feeling.

IF you haven't voted yet, get of your pants and vote, one half hour of your time, is not to much to ask to take charge, and have a hand in, your own future. Voting is a privledge, a right, and a duty, that we all should take seriously, and participate in. I voted two weeks ago, and that would be democrat.

Straight Dem here, too. I haven't found a Republican with a new message. Hell, I haven't found a Republican with a possitive message. It's all change back to what it was and vote out the Dems. I want to vote for one negative ad per candidate. If they find something more damning after their one ad has aired, too bad.

Voted early and voted a straight Dem ticket, and I'm a registered Repub. At this point, I fear the GOP has lost it's way, no clear leadership and no clear moderate platform. Yes, moderate.

I don't understand a party that is for the Constitution and then wants to change the Constitution. Repeal the 14th, 16th and 17th amendment? What's next, 1st?

You can lead, follow or get the H out of the way. We have had 2 years of GOP just standing on the sidelines and then playing Monday monring QB.

If GOP wins, their objective is simple, to push the government into failure to win 2012. We cannot afford this as a country, while the world progresses forward.

Get out and VOTE!

Good Poll.

I voted for a couple of Libertarians and Independents, the rest were Democrats. And I too am a registered Republican. After tomorrow I am going to change my status to Independent. Though, I don't think political affiliation really means much these days .

I could not bring myself to vote for a party that is divided within it's self. The Republican's need to get their S#$T together if they ever expect to people to take them seriously.

With all the talk about wanting to change the way government works, I'm surprised to see so many have voted strickly along party lines.

I'll vote tomorrow.

In every instance available, I will vote for the independent candidate.

If no independent candidate is available, I will vote against the incumbant.

I want to see real change.....and I'm putting my vote where my mouth is.

Most definitely democrat. We've seen the last 2 years how the Republicans work, or should I say, not work.

If the President has managed to get this country back on it's feet, though not as much as we'd like, he will accomplish more if given another 2 years of Democratic control of the House and Senate.

The Republicans were given 8 years to drive us into the ground. It is only right to give the Democrats 4 years to see what can be done. Screaming failure so quickly is impetuous.

The Republican party has no clear vision for this country and only interested in further delaying any change for fear our sitting President will accomplish what was promised.

The direction of the Republican party, as a whole, has lead to it's own division by the emergence of the Tea Party. Therefore, their overall platform of governance is harmful for our country.

I voted. I am a registered Democrat, mainly because of Bush. But I have voted off ticket before. I even voted Republican before, yes I voted for Crist last time. However this year, straight D all the way.

I like Crist but I don't trust him. See, he's an indie now and I have ask a small question. Depending on who you talk to he was either kicked/forced out or he left the R party. As a governor of a particularly influential state, Florida, I would believe that he would have some measure of power in his own party.

1) Kicked/Forced out.
If he was kicked/forced out, how? It's your party, you are the governor of Florida. How the hell do you get kicked out of your own party, more importantly were you so inept that you didn't notice that your party was becoming extremists? Or were you weak that you couldn't convince your own party to work to their best interest?

2) Left the Party
If he left the party then he was just using them and decided to cut off the dead weight in which case I have to ask where is your loyalty? Where is your honor? Once you realized they were in trouble, it was your duty to save them. You should have enough power to save them but you didn't want to?

Either way, couldn't vote him. Voted Meek.

The challenge this year is the LACK of moderates that are running. It appears as though every candidate is running to the fringe on both sides.

In this case, I will choose the one that will not stomp on my rights. This used to be the Right as they were for "less" government.

You cannot be for less government and at the same time tell people how to live (Gay Rights), how to think (Separation of Church and State), who to like (Immigrants), I realize I am being extreme so please do not point this out, it is only for effect.

The right has been hijacked by the Tea Party who really do not get what makes this country great, the ability to compromise and keep moving forward.

I don't think the average Tea Partier realizes how what they are supporting is what they are fighting. I'm all for cutting the government to the bone and in an ideal world, yes it would be nice to not have to pay taxes and not provide social services, as all people should support themselves. However, reality is reality, we need to pay taxes to support a government that provides shelter and security from foreign aggressors. And, along the way, we need to help those who cannot help themselves, that is the human thing to do.

So, if you are at that point in your life where you are drawing Social Securityand suplimenting your medical with Medicare, then think about the Tea Party moto of cutting these programs and what this will do to you.

Sharon Angel wants to cut all of this plus, Rand Paul is a Libertarian and does not believe in government, Sarah Palin is an opportunist who only thinks of her own personal wealth, FOX is a corporation and as such only cares about shareholder value, as they should. Yet, these are the people, to name a few, that have sold themselves as representing the working man, the middle class. Sell a dream and dreamers will follow. Sell reality and watch people run for their dreams. I would rather have my dreams and live in reality. Give me moderation and sanity over la la land.

I'm more inclinded to wonder about the VIO just because they are incumbents. (Joke: I guess they are doing a VIOlent overthrow of our government) As for voting a straight ticket, for me it was easiest between the federal canadates, then the state and local. From what I am reading, the closer to town canadates are the more moderate and in touch to the people in that area they are. It makes things harder to vote just straight ticket. However, with the people that I was given in the Mayoral race (which I wanted to vote for the independant canadate) it came down to who was closer to my point of view. That really sucks because of the bussing issue that we have in our city and the bridge (to bilk travellers).

Hey Lisa Schneider ... VIO sounds like a probable option, but how do you select between those who have the position NOW versus those who have held it in the past? Do you opt for straight independent?

We did that once in Minnesota and ended up with Jesse Ventura for our governor. I LOVED him, but he earned my vote when I saw him in the debates. For the longest time, he looked like a spectator at a tennis match, grinning from ear to ear as the Dem and Rep candidates beat each other up verbally. Then, they'd ask HIM a question, and his answer was articulate, intelligent, PERTINENT, to the point, and expressive of an honesty lacking in either of his opponents. To the shock of MN, he won.

I'd vote for the likes of him again. Most of my votes are heading towards Democrats, although we have a couple moderate Republicans who might get a portion of my ink.

Uhh no. People vote straight ticket because usually one party or another more closely aligns with their beliefs. For example I'm for an expansion of gay rights, not getting involved in needless wars and a stronger role for government in helping fix this economy, so there are no republican candidates that I would consider voting for. I'll probably be voting for at least some green or peace and freedom party candidates this time around though, at least at the state level.

MJV,

"How did we ever survive the first congress"

We almost didn't , and they were only in session for less than 2 months. Several times during the event, the proceedings nearly failed because of a difference in whether or not to dissole the 'Intolerable Acts' and whether or not to immediately suspend trade with Britain.

They were Americans who were also politicians, not politicians who were also Americans.

(Also - out of the entire group, only 2 of them were lawyers. Scary, huh?)

There was a time when I could call myself and independent. I can't do that anymore. The Tea Party has influenced the GOP to take a hard right turn. Both parties have their problems and our two party monopoly on government is dysfunctional. However, Reagan and the two Bushes account for 9.2 trillion dollars of our current national debt. The Republicans deregulated Wall Street and the housing market and caused the current recession. They have no new ideas and no remorse for what they have done. Vote Republican and you are voting for the next recession and quagmire war on the other side of the planet.

I'll be voting for some Republicans who also have the support of the independants, because there aren't any Libertarians running on any ticket I can vote on here. I CANNOT vote for keeping the majority for a party that proposed HR 4646, nor will I EVER vote for people who approved the HCR or the Stimulus act or the Auto Bailout. I detest Republicans generally, and despise Democrats mostly, so yet again, I am forced to hold my nose, swallow my rising gorge, and vote for the lesser of several evils.

Neither, as has already been explained to death, democrats agree with me much more on matters of policy. I could care less about the party or the candidates, so long as they try to implement policies I like better than those proposed by the other choices. Though I may not vote for people who I know will not win, even if they are closer to my beliefs.

No, they people dealing with a huge mess. They are doing the best they can with the gunk not to mention the obstructionists. Healthcare will cover 95% of the US, that's good. Do you know what they did to student loans? It would be that the Dept of Ed would loan the student the money and then the bank would come in and "manage it" while being paid by the DOE. Of course the bank charged huge interest, more than the DOE charged so they would pocket the difference. The new student loan bill, eliminates that. The DOE loans the money and the DOE is paid back. Cutting out wasteful spending. But I guess that's just awful to the banks, huh?

Ah well I don't understand voting for party.

    I usually do. Here's why:

Party loyalty means something to those in DC. If I thought the Republicans honored, or at least didn't attack and run out of office, anyone one of their rank who broke the lock-step, I might vote for for a Republican with interesting/good ideas (eg, a moderate).

But as soon as this (mythical) moderate got into office they'd be shunned - no committee assignments, etc. I want a representative who has at least the possibility of gaining clout for my state/district.

On top of that, conservatives have run-off most moderates out of the party, thus eliminating any chance of my cross-over vote ll all the time) but they represent the closest fit to my ideals and ethics.

To those who believe that voting out all incumbents is the smart thing to do, you do realize your new office holders will be "incumbents" as soon as their next election cycle comes around, don't you?

And, the problems that we are now living with will take much longer than one election cycle, so what exactly, would voting out all incumbents achieve? I believe a better solution is to eliminate all party designations. No more 'Republicans"....no more "Democrats", etc. Anyone running for office would have to actually say what their ideas and solutions are instead of the poisonous liberal / conservative rhetoric we are forced to listen to now.

BTW....I've already voted. Democrat. It's our only hope to save AZ. from the crazies like our accidental governor Jan headless body Brewer and her corporate cronies in the AZ. state legislature. We Democrats will lose here due to low voter turnout, but after another term of leaderless "leadership" from the G.O.P., the next election will return AZ. to Democratic control, just like it was for decades prior to the mid 1970's.

I believe a one term limit would result in politicians grabbing money while the grabbing's good, and most will just be in it for the short term gain.

What happens to the Republican who is caught with hand in till, or dick in person other than spouse? Oh, YEAH!! He/she is almost ALWAYS out of the party and office, even before the charges are proven. For Democrats, the accusation is ignored, and the conviction (or proof) is a resume enhancer. Yup, the Republicans are the bad guys. (Thanks a lot for making me support the idiot Reps over the scumbag Dems- two crappy choices to screw my country with).

Let's not make that a party issue, Neale. The freshmen coming in may be new to the position but they are not new to politics. Most of them have come up through the ranks of local to in state and now state rep or senator. They have contacts. They have practice. They are not NEW to the game.

I would like the parties to get along and to some extent it will happen. Problem is that we, the citizens, voters or not, will not believe in any cooperation. Everyone who wasagainst the Health Care Reform because it is Obamacare, will not find any part worthwhile until it comes from the Republican pen. Anyone who was for HCR will not accept the parts that were specifically Democrat even if the Republicans give them full credit.

We are looking at more nasty political daggers flying across Congress. Nothing will be done, only undone.

Mule- because I detest the general demeanor of both parties, I am NOT saying most of that comment in a partisan way, even though it look like it is. The Republicans NEVER back up their people, and the DEmocrats back them even after they are proven guilty. NEITHER way is good.

On Obamacare, well, you know from experience with me that I totally oppose the concept of the government imposing it's will on our healthcare system, even as much as it did BEFORE the so-called reform bill, so I will view ANY compromise by Republicans s bad, even if the Reps propose the modification. It is my studied opinion that it is primarily government mandates and the public versions of health care that have caused most of the problems that led us to the current situation. The rest of the problem is caused by people thinking insurance is supposed to pay for every single sniffle we have, vaccination we receive, and well-care visit we make. Since SOMEONE has to pay for these things, and insurance companies are in business to make a profit, if we require them to pay for these items, they must raise rates to cover those expenses. The only party I tend to support, and lately, not even that party, is Libertarian Party. IF e keep nominating neo-nazi Republican refugees for president, I won't be voting Libertarian any more, either.

However, on the last line of your post, I certainly hope that most of the Obama/Pelosi/Reid agenda IS undone. So, not everything you suggested isn't bad. But I still like mules, so I won't be mean to you!! As an aside, I have a horse pregnant with what should be a big, powerful mule. If it is a she, and cute, may I name it in your honor? It's only 2 to 1 democrat on Newsvine.

I hope you are not too disappointed when you find out your poll is not scientific.

      The Reps are taking over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I'm not even a Rep.

And to RDS and JonesGirl - when CA gets too expensive and you can't find a job, don't blame me, BLAME JERRY BROWN. That is IF he is elected.

Other polls still have the 2 neck and neck.

      Dream on

fivethirtyeight predict Brown with a 96% chance of certainty. Nate Silver is wicked accurate. His methodology uses a myriad of polls and formulas to compensate for many things most other polls do not.

Now let's wander over to ReaClearPolitics which is also a poll of polls. Brown is kicking Whitman's ass.

CA is already expensive, and I spent much of Arnold's time as governor without a job, so that dog don't hunt.

Heck, even Whitman admits that CA under Brown 30 years ago was great.

Karen, I worked closely with Whitman and her stooges after ebay bought a small auction house I worked in. She and her closest employees were nightmares. They didn't listen to a soul, even those with more experience, and threw money at problems, rather than solving them.

NutMeg would be a nightmare for this fine state. But she and Carly have pretty much no chance. Can't wait to see Meg groveling and whining in her concession speech!

On the California race- it really doesn't matter who wins. Either way, the rest of the country is gonna have to bail out the liberal mecca of the left coast. then, probably, the jackass state of NY (GOD I wish my wife would agree to leave this frigging overtaxed [but beautiful] state)

      Karen:

Since I sincerely doubt that Meg will win, try understanding that government is not like private business. Government is there to provide for all people the things people cannot provide for themselves.

Such as protection from monopolies in businesses that take away competition and lead to a Fascist type of Government, Where the government and businesses are linked together such as the ones to big to fail. That is not a business it is a part of the government if the government bails it out.

I find it hilarious to see so called conservatives failing to understand the need of the government to control how businesses operate in our country, also the need to set fair trade regulations with our trading partners.

Keep voting for the people who want to privatise everything and you will have no more freedoms, because the wealthy will control it all !!!!!

      Just finished casting my votes.

Voted for two Republicans, because they were the better option. That is a sad statement when the Democrats can't run somebody better than a Republican.

Voted mainly Democrat with 3 Libertarians also voted for.

I still want change in America, and not the spare change from some politician's backers.

I want America to move forward, because we can't go back. Once something is done, it is done. One cannot go back and change it, one can only move forward with the knowledge gained from the errors made, and not make them again.

So when the tea partiers say they want to go back, they can't, and when the Republicans say we need to go back we can't.

If their messages were one of, we've all made some major mistakes and we need to look at them and learn from them. I might consider listening to them. But to just be the party of NO and we need to go back in time. Well they are not realists at all !!!!!

I really do not understand why everyone gripes about Meg spending so much money.

Because it reeks, utterly reeks, of trying to buy the office. Think of the good that $150 million could have done for so many people.

Obama didn't try to buy his office. His money was contributions, much of it from small donors.

Candidates like Meg, who try to buy office in CA usually fail, as they should. Meg's a bored rich woman looking for something to do. Sorry, but CA isn't a hobby.

Were she serious about running, she should have started small, as a mayor or councilperson. But that wouldn't have fed her ego probably.

Well, I'm actually more centrist. Leaning left of domestic social issues, and to the right of Attila the Hun on national security issues. My view is that these tp endorsed candidates are a threat to the very existence of this country. They are riding a populist wave. A wave defined by the economic times. Consequently, what's not so apparently is what lies beneath their populist rhetoric. What they would further do to establish and strengthen their TRUE agenda. And that agenda is ALL on the social, theocratic end of the spectrum.

Mike, as an independent who leans conservative .. yeah, the TP candidates scare me too. The theocratic slant ... I want a smaller Federal government, and that includes keepiing them out of what consenting adults do in bed or anything related to religious fantasies. Not sure I agree with you on the social end; that seems to be more liberal. We need some of that, but we need a hell of a lot more personal responsibility.

I'm not against any of these initiatives. Smaller government would be great! Less taxes? Absolutely! But the current state of demonizing, hate talk, socialist this, nazi that, muslim this, illegitimate that is driving me and many, many others crazy. I want these clowns, ALL OF THEM, to be locked up in those chambers, work out their differences, compromise, negotiate come to a consensus. ANYTHING!!!!! and work for ALL THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. Not just bases. Basically, I'm saying stop the finger pointing and DO SOMETHING TOGETHER!

When I say theocratic I mean that there is a strong Dominionist element running through this new batch of so called conservative candidates. And if you know anything about that particular form of Evangelicalism, you'd know what I'm talking about and might see the danger to our multi-cultural, multi-faith society and our form of government.

LOL, again. Fun topic, Carloz, even though we're generally on opposite sides of the discussion. Keep up the good work.

Your obviously a fellow Floridian. I will be voting tomorrow for mostly Dems although I am also going to vote for Christ too because in reality Meek can't win and I would much rather Christ than Rubio.

I planned to vote for Adam Putnam (R) who you also mention he's a local boy I think he understands our agriculture well but I did get a little annoyed with his commercial talking about California......I just thought where does that have a place in a local Florida election. There is a likelihood I will still vote for him but that commercial really turned me off.

I think Alex Sink will walk away with the Governor seat, the "penis in a suit" Scott has waaayyyy too much corrupt baggage....first HCA Columbia scandal and now he's been caught doing the exact same thing with his new company Solantis.

Although my ideology is more in line with Meek, I voted for Crist half-heartedly. He did right by the teachers in Fla and deserves our support for that. The reality is that Crist has more of a shot against Rubio than Meek. No problem voting for Alex Sink. Rick Scott must be beaten! Tallahassee has enough crooks without one living in the Governor's mansion.

I'll be voting tomorrow. I love the anticipation of waiting until election day to vote and want to avoid casting a vote for a candidate that still has time to screw up. Additionally, I want our young son to realize the importance of voting and feel the larger poll crowd on election day helps to drive it home. Can't wait to add another "I voted" sticker to my collection - thank goodness they give our son his own, so I don't have to share.

I'll be voting mostly Dem, with at least one independent (Crist).

Funny enough, I have no childhood memories of my parents voting, holding political conversations, or giving me on-the-fly civics lessons. I had no idea how much it all mattered until my mid-20's. Sometimes I wonder if all my talking is sinking in or if he'll forget it because he's too young - you both give me hope that my words and actions might not be wasted, lol!

Trust me it works. I can't ever remember a time when my parents weren't engrossed in politics. I was lucky I was born after Watergate my sisters not so lucky that's what they watched not Sesame Street, lol. My mother was a hippy and a Democrat and my dad a good ol southern boy Republican. Political years got very heated in my house. My dad since GW has become a democrat so it's a lot quieter these days.

I am 33 years old now and the first person I called after I voted this morning to talk politics was my mom.

Not straight ticket voter, but for me, the lack of Reps that don't seem to be completely crazy, put me with more Dems than Reps (with a mix of neither, depending on the race).

            Just locally, here in Colorado:

"We should bomb Mecca & ..." Tancredo

Telling a rape victim she was "just suffering buyers remorse" Buck

There was not much of a choice. I could break it down further, but it is time for bed, I have two (maybe a 3rd) jobs I have to work in the next 24. No worries we have a mail in ballot here in Colorado & as stated before I have already voted, against the crazies.

I had that for my state senate seats. I just didn't vote them. I figure if they realize that 25,000 people in their district voted and they only got 5,000 votes then (if they aren't idiots) will realize that if they had an opponent then said opponent would have taken them 4 to 1.
