Healthy eater Rush Limbaugh yesterday attacked the "leftist kooks" at the Center for Science in the Public Interest for their intent to sue McDonald's over its Happy Meal toy promotions, and said they "want to ban Chinese food."

Rush clearly remembers the good old days when companies were free to market anything they wanted to kids. And he is utterly appalled that these "statists" at the CSPI want to ban Chinese food (even though the organization calls Chinese food "healthy"). Rush is worried that if these wackos have their way, we'll all be eating "nothing but tofu and cardboard" like a bunch of damn pinko commies. From Friday's broadcast of The Rush Limbaugh Show:

Yeah, like I'm gonna follow Limbaugh's advice on food - or anything for that matter.

What is interesting is this whole story started with the issue of the toy promotion, then "somehow" blows up to be about liberals telling you what you can and can't eat. In this case, however, the call is sound.

As far as the toy promotion goes, there have been toys in boxes of cereal and in Cracker Jacks for decades now. Gas stations used to give out free glasses, banks handed out free toasters. Restaurants have "two-for-one" deals. So I disagree with the CSPI in their views.

Obviously, this attack on toys is not an attack on toys at all. It is an attack on the nutritional contents of the Happy Meal itself. Rush is sort of right, but should be angry about the subterfuge demonstrated here. That in itself is far worse than trying to educate people about nutrition choices.

There will continue to be long discussions about what we eat, our general health and the government's role in those issues. However, guising your arguments behind something like a free toy is disingenuous.

The irony is; Rush didn't get fat eating McDonald's meals, he got there eating fine steaks and Cognac, see; Rush is a hedonist and a very successful one at that. The big fat hypocrite strikes again. The ditiots love him because they want to be him, seriously; What kind of desperate person wants to emulate Rush? He is the worlds most expensive cheeseburger!

Yes.. he should be allowed to eat it all..and he looks like he has been doing a great job of it.

They're suing McDonald's over happy meals? I need to learn a bit more about this one, but I'm not sure I totally disagree with him. (ACK!!! That just makes me feel dirty all over. : ( )

I think the food industry probably has a lot to answer for, but people can choose what they eat. As far as marketing to kids goes, if you don't want your kids eating McDonald's, don't take them to McDonald's. I don't care what they're hawking, say no. Our kids were uttering the phrase 'heart attack on a bun' by the time they hit two. My husband is like the American version of Jamie Oliver; in the food biz, and always concerned with what's going in the kids mouths. He gives me a hard time over VEGETARIAN sausage being fed to our kids because he feels it's too full of chemicals. He almost imploded once when he found margarine in our house. Needless to say, fast food is pretty much out. I'm not convinced a lawsuit will make parents feed their kids healthier. Education can go a long way.

McDonalds, BurgerKing, and others "force" people to over eat.. they tie their legs and arms to the chair and force feed them.. These fast food restaurants are in a conspiracy to make everyone gain fat/weight .. it is their fault people are so fat.. This mentality is so f'n stupid.. Like people do not have the power within them to just stop feeding their face? Watching what they eat? How much they eat? IF a person has a lack of willpower that much then maybe they ought to over eat and explode doing so...

Blaming/forcing fast food and others for a person's lack of motivation ..and lack of Responsibility is far fetched.. it is stupidity at its finest.

Yep. I have a hard time threatening lawsuits over choices parents are making. In our house fast food is extremely rare to put it mildly, and I can't see the benefit of kids having an arcade in the house, so that's out too. There are a lot of ways to tackle childhood obesity but imo, lawsuits aren't the way.

1devon, you made a great argument, it went rat-a-tat-tat real nicely and I was with you most of the way, I am not even the type to file a lawsuit but the lawsuit must hang above the head of the rich, like a mistletoe at Christmas, with horny teenagers around, using it for an excuse, to make out. Didiots, make out with Didiots.
