A businessman gave up his career to live on no money for a year after becoming disillusioned with consumerism.
Mark Boyle said giving up his job, possessions and money to live the life of a pauper in a rusty old caravan was the best decision he has ever made.
The 30-year-old has vowed to continue with his money-free life for good, adding: "It's been fantastic. I never really knew how much stress and worry money brought to my life until I was free of it.
I found a couple of realted articles, too. Here is one he wrote:
My year of living without money
and here's one about an American "freegan" colleague of his:
Living without money, possessions has long tradition worldwide
I have heard of people like that before - on HGTV, called "living on the edge".
bottom line is that he has a laptop, he uses technology - thus, he's no more than a bum or a mooch - a parasite if you will.
I'm all for going back to nature, but I think that this whole idea was planned, just so that he could write a book and strike it rich.
this is just a spin-off the guy who sold everything he owned, and then bet it all at a roulette table...
You may be right, Jaker.
Nan, I really am sorry about what you are going through, but you still need to follow the CoH. Also, neither Jaker nor anyone else on this seed is talking about people who have lost their jobs, but about the man the article is about -- a man who is choosing not to work. A world of difference.
I believe this, as I have thought about trying it. But I am married and so anything I do impacts two, and two pets! But hey, yesterday morning my dad just cancelled my debt to him so I can pay off those cards a little sooner! 3 months without using cards, and counting!
I have thought about trying it.
I don't think I could do it.
3 months without using cards, and counting!
Congrats!!
Nice, Jbird
I suppose if you're single, you could try it. But if you have kids, it probably wouldn't work out for the best and I certainly wouldn't suggest it.
It does sound like a good way to live, I have to say. But the photo of him paints a picture of someone who can afford nice clothes... I'm not entirely convinced.

But he may have bought them when he was still working. As for his vow to continue, any money from the book will be the test.
Right now this isn't a life for him, it's an extended camping trip. Wait til he needs a dentist or doctor etc. Also I noticed he is a freegan. They call it grocery store waste, but if more and more people do this (raiding bins etc)grocery stores will simply order less products , taking desperately needed jobs from the countries that produce alot of the foods we eat. I am all for getting back to nature and reducing ones footprint but freeganism to me is just mooching.

Good point MTLG -- and he says he wants a girlfriend. Can you imagine two living like that? And as Alkimija pointed out in comment #3, what about kids? Wait til they need a dentist or doctor!!
It's about survival
well if he is getting money from a book and he doesnt know what to do with it in his stress free life I will be more then happy to take it off of his hands. I wouldnt want that to be the cause of his meltdown. :)
I could never do it. I am all about reducing our footprint, but this is just extremism. More power to him if it makes him happy though.
