Controversial claims that Christians should not have to condone homosexuality will be made in the court of appeal today, as a registrar says she suffered discrimination by being required to conduct same-sex civil partnership ceremonies.
Lillian Ladele, 48, has said she was treated unfairly in her role as a registrar for Islington council, which expected her to carry out the ceremonies despite her beliefs that they were "contrary to God's law".
"Ms Ladele is entitled to her views but not to pick and choose who is worthy of public services."
Spot on -- she just needs to do her job.
I agree. Her beliefs are not part of her job, do the job you are getting paid to do, if you have a problem with that then go work somewhere that your beliefs are part of your daily duties.
How long has Ms. Ladele been on the bench and she needs to be reminded now that "God's Law" and Britain's law are not the same thing? She may be a child of God but she works for the people of Britain.
Had she been living in the US in the 50's and 60's wonder how she would have felt if she couldn't marry a white man..since there were law's on the books preventing inter-racial marriage.
I agree..it's the law and she need to do her job.
We can't forget just a few weeks ago a judge in Louisiana (if memory serves) refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple claiming that such marriages are just bad for the children, or some such bunk. Idiots are among us, it is just sad to think that they can pull it together enough to reach such prominent positions.
No one is forcing her to condone homosexuality. She's not being forced into a same sex relationship or sex act so she can get over herself already.
