We're in the toughest, most competitive market for jobs in the last 20 years. So if you're looking for a job and feeling mobile, where should you head? Sunny, humid, socialist Washington, D.C., of course!

Last point to make: Detroit has the fewest job postings of any of the 50 most populous metro areas. Of the six worst cities for job postings, four are from Michigan, Florida, California. And so MichiCaliFlArivada saga continues.

It puts into perspective how shocking this must be for the areas at the bottom. Cincinnati is usally doesn't appear towards the top. We're familiar with the recession effects we are having, other places it must seem like the end of the world.

I think one of the posters on the article had a good point. How many applicants per job? That would put a whole new slant on things. It seems there are some Newsviners out of work in the Austin area (one of the top 10 on the list).

I live in a small town in the Hill Country of Texas. There is a big water park here that costs $72 per day per person to get into. There is usually a line of people waiting and it is packed like sardines in there. Unfortunately, they don't pay very well, and most of their employees are in the 16-21 year old bracket. The biggest unfortunate part, from my stand point, is that I don't own any tubes I can rent or have any river front property to rent parking. People are paying $10 up to park to go to the river and $8 to rent a tube.

Maybe if they make pot legal, we can all have a little "mom and pop" pot operation until the big boys come in and take that over.

Carlos, this was posted yesterday and I thought a good article from Money magazine on where the jobs. Its based on 2008 data but that is the most complete data they have at present. Hope LenagirlNJ doesn't mind if I put her article here.

http://lenagirlnj.newsvine.com/_news/2009/07/16/3032680-where-the-jobs-are

this article talks about job growth within those cities. Not all places are losing jobs, some are finding jobs.

I was in the Richmond Va job market for 10 months and couldn't find a living wage job. I could have headed north and commuted 70 plus miles one way and maybe had a better chance in the Northern Virginia area but moving there is insanity as your living costs increase so much. Grumpy people who commute in horrific traffic is another downside, which can also be said of Atlanta. I'd personally say the grass isn't greener anywhere and that we have an employment crisis within this country along with a oil and energy crisis, medical crisis, insurance crisis, corporate welfare crisis, politician crisis creating a deficit crisis.

I agree with you Linda, I'm not trying to sound Pollyannaisn here. There is a crisis in employment. But there are places that are hiring as well. I know the SRS plant in Akien/Augusta held another job fair yesterday, and several thousand people are coming to apply. http://www.wrdw.com/jobsearch/headlines/41047297.html

http://www.srs.gov/general/careers/careers1.htm is their web page that list jobs.

I am just saying, there are places hiring.

If it were not for decades of filthy wealthy sending jobs overseas so their bonuses could include millions more and then ruining trusted American companies and hence our retirement funds. I would not protest the taking back of the money the filthy wealth stole from the American businesses, including GM, Banks, stock companies, etc.

Greedy do not care about the health of America as long as they have healthy bank accounts!

No Dah!!!!!
