Waffle House weirdness continues

"Cop delivers baby in Waffle House parking lot."

"Suit claims cops Taser Waffle House waiter – as a joke."

The news of the Waffle House Weird seems to be as continuous and prolific as the chain itself. Why is it always Waffle House? Maybe we just pay more attention to a news story when there's a Waffle House angle. Or maybe unusual events just gravitate toward the Norcross-based chain of diners.

The AJC wrote a March 2009 story about Waffle House's complete inability to stay out of the news. Here's an update.

What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

April 2003: The late Lawrence Clark requests his memorial service be held at his favorite WH on U.S. 129 near Gainesville. About 40 people, many of them employees, attend, with Clark’s ashes in an urn on the hood of a car in the parking lot.

You know IHOP would kill for this kind of free publicity.

Waffles sound really good right now! mmmm Lotsa butter melting into the little squares with syrup dripping down the sides. I am starving.

But their waffles are not crisp. They are soggy. I like Belgium waffles much better as you can get them crisp.

I think waffles have baking powder in them, but pancakes don't. Or, is it the other way around?

The boxed mix you buy in the grocery can be used for either pancakes or waffles

But if you add more cooking oil, you get crisper waffles.

To be fair to Waffle House (and I just ate there 4 days ago) certain types of news gravitate towards places that serve inexpensive food.

In many places that would be the Waffle House. In some places I've lived it was the White Castle (it's regional), and in others it may be Stucky's. Barring all those places in a local area it's the Mickey D's.

Pitt Grill, never.

We have a regional pizza chain called Larosa's. It doesn't attract oddness. In fact in all the news of the weird I can't remember one that's happened at a pizza place.

Pitt Grill used to be a chain in Louisiana, Texas and maybe some other places. I'm not sure it still exists as a company, but apparently individual restaurants do.

I really like the hasbrowns, scattered, smothered, double covered and chunked with them extra well done, i.e. scattered with onions covered with two pieces of chesse with ham chunks in them and extra well done to get them a little crispy. And they do have good waffles.

It seems to vary from place to place but some Waffle Houses serve food that is way too greasy. Sometimes one meal is almost a year's worth of cholesterol.

I think thats pretty much the point, I dont know anyone who thinks Healthy who thinks Waffle House is a good place to watch their calories or their cholesterol. Thats the bad thing though with most diets all the food that is good for us really isn't that tasty and by the time you add all the stuff to it to make it taste good it ruins the health value in the first place.

Carloz....our IHOP is PATHETIC =( . Never once have they ever got my order right (eggs benedict)....and the service or lack thereof is amazing. If I want to get my blood pressure up I make sure and dine with IHOP, LOL !

But when I go to a bigger city I love to eat there with friends and never have a fiasco like I do here.

Sorry to hear that, Kimberly. I guess Quality COntrol is not one of their strong points. I used to like the one on Richmond Ave. in Houston, Texas.
