Senator Barack Obama has warned his supporters to hold their nerve as Republicans prepared to "throw everything" at him in the final few days of the race for the White House.
The Democratic candidate urged voters not to take victory for granted as he expected his opponents to launch a dirty tricks campaign to scare away voters.
Referring to previous smears and insinuations about his background and associations, the Democratic candidate said: "Don't believe for a second this election over. Don't believe for a moment that power concedes anything. It's going to get nasty in the next four days. They will throw everything at it."
Despite his healthy lead in the polls, he implored a crowd of more than 20,000 in Columbia on Friday not to forget to vote and asked them to take five friends along and "dig deep and make history".
Addressing the most recent attacks from the campaign of his rival Senator John McCain, he adopted a mocking tone. "They can't even decide what to call me. They are calling me every name in the book but they can't decide on a single angle," he said.
But his campaign is convinced that in the final, frantic four days of his historic bid to become the first black US president more slurs will be thrown his way, by Mr McCain, the Republican Party and outside groups.
Tell it like it is, Barack!
McCain-Palin & Co. are so desperate, who knows what new prevarications they may come up with next?
VOTE EVERYONE! Insist on a paper ballot!!

im really scared tho
just look at the bs newsviners like "jazzman" and "krishna" spend all day putting up
i can imagine the mccain campaign is gonna release all types of bs, and those two will go crazy
I've wondered if there are Newsviners who are some of those paid "volunteers" of McCain's. Anway, whatever the reason, we Obama supporters need to follow his lead -- calm, steady and unintimidated by the smears -- all the way to the voting booth!
I, too think my ulcer may have returned after all of this. It could have been relatively sane and simple but................. "we the people" have turned this into a fiasco of negativity. And let's not even mention "jazzman; I'm surprised he has not taken a leave of absence from his job and joined "Joe the.............."
Nov 5th or 6th can't some soon enough for me. Thank God for the power of prayer. I hope the positive results of the Dems will be enough soon and very soon and we won't have to send "them" the memo. They have been out of bounds so many times with no penalty flags on the plays.
Have Barack and Joe had that kitchen sink thrown at them yet? just in case I missed it.................
Have Barack and Joe had that kitchen sink thrown at them yet?
That'll be McCain-Palin's November surprise Hail Mary Pass.
Obama has a great line. To paraphrase, don't be scared, don't boo, just VOTE. The one thing that those who would manipulate our population can't stand is people who are conscious, brave, and steady. Being articulate helps, too.
It just means you have to say your truth. The BS will be easy for thoughtful people to spot.
I've already voted this past Monday and I am terrified that something will go wrong or that all the people who say they will vote for Obama won't show up. John McCain is looking way too happy and that concerns me. I'm sure that they've got one more dirty trick to pull out of their hat. Nothing has surprised me this election.
In that case, stop by the nearest campaign office. I'm sure they'd love your help calling, canvassing or whatever for the Get Out The Vote effort.
hang on ...feels like it gonna be a b u m p y ride.............. and that grin, yeesh........on that Cheshire cat looking candidate.
"My friends, we're regular maverick underdogs who put our country first and are the real Americans in this race, you betcha. (Oh, and don't forget, POW, my friends.)"
We are blessed with a great country. Throughout history, we have always had to choose between fear and liberty - and nearly everytime we have made the right decision. We have done it by choosing to reject arguments based on fear.
It is already going on:

Thanks for the link, J.
Here's a new one I found: Obama's half aunt on his absent-father's side, a Kenyan woman, is in the country illegally. The article said that, "The AP could not could not establish whether anyone at a political level in the Bush administration or in the McCain campaign had been involved in the release of information about the case." It also said that the "case—coming to light just days before the presidential election—led to an unusual nationwide directive within Immigrations and Customs Enforcement requiring any deportations prior to Tuesday's election to be approved at least at the level of ICE regional directors, the U.S. law enforcement official told the AP. The unusual directive suggests that the Bush administration is sensitive to the political implications of Onyango's case coming to light so close to the election." I'll bet they are sensitive to it -- and I'm sure stories will soon start that Obama is somehow responsible. I'm sure glad people don't judge me based on what my extended family does. I mean, I have a second cousin who had a DUI!!!
And of course, this smear story has made it to the Vine, at least three times so far:
