Hillary Clinton fulfilling new role with gusto

advertisement

Excerpt from "Clinton fulfilling new role with gusto" by Joan Vennochi, Boston Globe Columnist, September 14, 2008

"No way, no how, no McCain," she told Democrats in a forceful endorsement speech. She added "No Palin" after Republican John McCain picked the little-known, female governor of Alaska as his running mate.

Vanquished primary candidates usually go home to rest and ponder the high points and lows of their failed effort. Clinton, in contrast, raised more than $4 million for the Obama campaign and repeatedly urged her supporters to campaign for Obama and contribute to his cause. She hosted a reception in Denver for 250 of her donors and is scheduled to be in Chicago tonight for another fund-raising event. She has another fund-raising event scheduled for Sept. 22 in New York City, with the goal of raising $500,000.

The top women's groups that supported Clinton endorsed Obama and Clinton is urging all the unions that endorsed her in the primary to back Obama.

She is holding rallies in battleground states like Florida, New Hampshire, and Ohio. Staff members from Clinton's presidential campaign are now working to elect Obama and his running mate, Senator Joe Biden of Delaware.

"She has a special role and she is fulfilling it with gusto," said Kathleen Strand, a Clinton spokesperson. It is a special role and it requires as much gusto as possible.

McCain-Palin is going straight for the Clinton vote, male and female. Only Clinton can tell those voters in a uniquely personal way why it's the wrong ticket for Clinton supporters.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

The media certainly seems to have forgotten about Hillary Clinton. I hope there will be more coverage of the campaigning she is doing for Obama. No way, no how, no McCain-Palin!

I agree! Sarah Palin has made condescending comments toward Hillary... and someone needs to inform America that Sarah Palin stands against women's rights.

I've pretty much been with Obama from the start. However I do think it's great to see Hillary getting out there and it gives me a lot more respect for her. I'm betting she will be a cabinet member on this team or at least the offer will be thrown out.

My hope is he names her to the Supreme Court. That would be great for the country -- plus would give some on the extreme right apoplexia. ;-)

Sadly, I don't think that is a possibility. Without a 60 Dem majority in the senate, I think hell will freeze over before any Republican senators would put a Clinton on the Supreme Court. Its kind of an anomaly to go from the presidency to the Supreme Court. I know Hillary isn't president, but Bill couldn't get on the court either now. Only Taft did it.

I think Sec. of Health & Human Services would be a great post for Hillary.

But she could also stay in the Senate and become a lionness these. I'd take her over Reid as Majority Leader, any day.

If Obama wins, and has a successful first term, I would not be surprised to see Hillary Clinton take over the VP position in 2012. Biden would be pushing 70 by then, so he could use his age as an excuse to bow out gracefully. Hillary, taking over as VP, would unite the party as never before. More importantly, for Clinton, being VP puts her in a position to have input on policies, because a failed second term for Obama could sabotage her chances for another run at the presidency in 2016.

14 percent of Democrat Hillary Clinton's supporters say the addition of Palin to the Republican ticket makes them more likely to vote for McCain - and 16 percent of all self-professed Clinton supporters surveyed say they are now supporting McCain.

    Latest Newsweek poll

    1 in 6, Obama has a problem.

And Obama broke his own record by raising $66 million this past month, while McCain only raised $47 million. And 500,000 of those who donated to Obama during that time were 1st time donors.

Latest figures from ABC News. Obama campaign breaks record with $66 million raised in August!

Wow, 500,000 new donors; 19 million dollars more than McCain in a month! McCain has a problem.

Maybe you should change your "name" to No Bush repeat 08. Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot, you WANT a Bush repeat.

A new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll shows Obama's lead among women shrinking from 14 points a month ago to just four points now.
